| AJ and Kristy's Experience on The Marriage Course |
|
Being married for 4 years there were no glaring problems with our relationship but with our 1 year old son being our main focus, we were beginning to realise how little time we were making for us. Seeing an advert for the Marriage Course, we decided what did we have to lose? Some people thought that because we were on the course meant that we were having problems but we saw it as a pro-active approach to keep our relationship strong. The first night we turned up a little apprehensive but quickly relaxed with the yummy selection of desserts on offer as we mingled with everyone. Couples varied in age from early twenties to late fifties, with kids or not, married or in committed relationships.Â
Being held in a church we were concerned how much religion would come into it and although the course touched on it, it is recognised that this is not everyone’s view. After the initial introduction we sat down at a separate table for each couple and focused on the DVD session and short exercises to get us talking. With no group discussions, everything was conducted between you and your partner, it was private and easy to concentrate on the relaxed presentation style. Each week a new topic was introduced, building on from the last week. Some topics were more relevant to us than others, but all had some worthwhile points. It also succeeded in us spending two hours quality time together each week solely dedicated to us with no interruptions. This allowed us to focus on the positives again and what we enjoyed about each other.   We can personally recommend the course as we found the facilitators open and friendly, the course content relevant and we’ve come away with some useful tools and skills to help us work through any difficult issues, communicate more effectively and enjoy our relationship.  AJ and Kristy. |
